On 29.08.2026, the Ottawa Police Service issued a public advisory warning that Aaron Gilpin, a 35-year-old high-risk violent sexual offender, is now residing in the National Capital Region. Gilpin has an extensive criminal record, including convictions for a brutal child-related sexual assault, assault, weapons offences, disarming a police officer, break and enters, and thefts. He was last released from custody in 2025 and is no longer under any release conditions. Police urge the public not to approach or confront Gilpin, but to report any sightings to the High-Risk Offender Management Unit. The advisory follows a similar warning issued by the Smiths Falls Police Service earlier this summer when Gilpin was spotted in Smiths Falls. The Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre expressed concern over his relocation and noted that videos circulating on social media show members of the public confronting Gilpin, which they discourage. On 28.08.2026, police reported that a 73-year-old woman, who was stabbed during a break-in at a home in London, Ontario, a week ago, has died in hospital. A man has been charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident. On 10.08.2026, a man shot a Calgary police officer in Edworthy Park, then fled and shot himself. The incident began when officers attempted a traffic stop on his truck in the parking lot. The man fled into a nearby dog park, firing several rounds at the officers, injuring one. Police returned fire and deployed a HAWCS helicopter to track him. The man shot at the helicopter while fleeing, then carjacked a work truck at gunpoint and drove onto railroad tracks. When the truck got stuck, he ran into the Bow River and shot himself. Police found him dead minutes later. A handgun was recovered from the river the next day. Am 26.08.2026 wurde ein 24-jähriger Mann aus Cambridge, Ontario, im Rahmen einer internationalen Drogenhandels-Ermittlung festgenommen. Investigators are trying to identify a group of about 16 males who were apparently involved in the incident. In photos provided, the men appeared to be young, some dressed in athletic clothing, others in button-down shirts. Police are asking anyone with information about the identity of those men, or who witnessed the stabbing, to contact the Ottawa Police Service Central Criminal Investigations Section.Investigators are trying to identify a group of about 16 males who were apparently involved in the incident. Am 20.11.2026 durchsuchten Beamte des Polizeidienstes der Stadt Gatineau eine Wohnung im Gebiet Manoir des Trembles im Zusammenhang mit zwei Einbruchsfällen. Dabei wurde ein 52-jähriger Einwohner von Gatineau festgenommen und in Untersuchungshaft gebracht. Er wurde dem Gericht von Québec vorgeführt. Nach seinem Gerichtstermin wurden weitere Anklagen wegen ähnlicher Straftaten zugelassen. Der Mann bot seine Dienste als Handwerker an, hauptsächlich für Arbeiten in Häusern von Frauen. Nachdem er Zugang zu den Wohnungen der Opfer erhalten hatte, meldeten diese, Unterwäsche gefunden zu haben, die ihnen nicht gehörte, und dass eigene Unterwäsche fehlte. Die Ermittler gehen davon aus, dass der Mann möglicherweise weitere Personen im Viertel Manoir des Trembles sowie anderswo in Gatineau und Ottawa geschädigt hat. On 16.07.2026 at approximately 20:45, two suspects went to an apartment building on Thorold Stone Road in Niagara Falls and shot 35-year-old Mitchell Snoddon. Snoddon was taken to hospital by ambulance but died shortly thereafter. Josta MacNeal, previously reported as 30, was arrested by Service de police de la Ville de Montreal on 27.08.2026 and faces a charge of second-degree murder. Maaroof Bangi, previously identified as 23, remains at large. As no firearm has been recovered, Bangi is considered armed and dangerous. Police urge the public not to approach him and to call 911 immediately. The shooting is believed to be targeted. Police earlier reported the suspects were driving a 2022-2026 Nissan Rogue SUV, later a 2016 Toyota Camry with a cracked windshield and damage on the passenger side front and rear doors, last seen on Highway 45 in Hastings, Ont. A Mazda CX5 believed to be carrying the two was also recovered. On 26.12.2024, Duane Nepoose, 32, pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection with a crime spree that ended in a fatal crash at Macleod Trail and Southland Drive in Calgary. Nepoose, fleeing police in a stolen van, ran a red light and collided with two other vehicles, killing nine-year-old Victoria Desjardins and injuring her mother and older sister, as well as another motorist. The flight lasted about 16 minutes, with speeds up to 170-180 km/h, and included running multiple red lights. Nepoose had previously committed a robbery, punching a pharmacist and stealing his vehicle. On 27.08.2026, Court of King's Bench Justice Indra Maharaj sentenced him to 10 years in prison, with credit for time served, leaving about 7½ years. The judge cited mitigating factors such as his upbringing and remorse, but noted his methamphetamine use as an aggravating factor.
