Gilpin has an extensive criminal record, including convictions for a brutal child-related sexual assault, assault, weapons offences, disarming a police officer, break and enters, and thefts. He was last released from custody in 2025 and is no longer under any release conditions. Police urge the public not to approach or confront Gilpin, but to report any sightings to the High-Risk Offender Management Unit. The advisory follows a similar warning issued by the Smiths Falls Police Service earlier this summer when Gilpin was spotted in Smiths Falls. The Ottawa Rape Crisis Centre expressed concern over his relocation and noted that videos circulating on social media show members of the public confronting Gilpin, which they discourage.
