On 10.08.2026, a man shot a Calgary police officer in Edworthy Park, then fled and shot himself. The incident began when officers attempted a traffic stop on his truck in the parking lot. The man fled into a nearby dog park, firing several rounds at the officers, injuring one. Police returned fire and deployed a HAWCS helicopter to track him. The man shot at the helicopter while fleeing, then carjacked a work truck at gunpoint and drove onto railroad tracks. When the truck got stuck, he ran into the Bow River and shot himself. Police found him dead minutes later. A handgun was recovered from the river the next day. On Aug. 24, 2026 at approximately 6 a.m., police were called to the 4000 block of Edmonton Tr. N.E. in Calgary, a block from the first incident, following reports of suspicious activity. Witnesses said the site had been repeatedly accessed by suspects. Upon arrival, officers found one suspect sleeping inside a vehicle. Officers then opened the manhole cover and located a second suspect inside the manhole. Police seized multiple tools and supplies, as well as approximately 25 feet of cut telecommunications cable. At the scene, police found 23.4 grams of suspected methamphetamine, 11.7 grams of suspected fentanyl, and electronic and hand tools. Aurora Felicity Burr, 29, of Calgary, a suspect in the first incident, is charged with mischief over $5,000, possession of break-in instruments, two counts of failing to comply with a release order, possession of fentanyl and possession of methamphetamine. Officers found a red SUV with a tow strap hooked to an object inside a manhole. A witness reported that the vehicle was driven forward in an attempt to pull items from the manhole. Officers located three suspects, one man and two women, near the manhole and took all three into custody. Calvin Joseph Hawryluk, 46, of Calgary, is charged with mischief causing damage over $5,000 and possession of a controlled substance. Linda Lee Scott, 57, of Calgary, is charged with mischief causing damage over $5,000 and breach of probation order. Am 14.05.2025 in den frühen Morgenstunden griffen zwei Brüder den 67-jährigen Busfahrer Amarjit Grewal an einer Haltestelle im Nordwesten von Calgary an. Darryl Flett und sein Bruder Curtis Baker Spence schlugen mit einem Schlagstock und einer scharfen Waffe auf das Opfer ein, das sich mit den Händen schützte. Der Angriff dauerte an, als Grewal am Boden lag. Ein Fahrgast versuchte zu helfen. All three were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Police believe the same person assaulted all three and identified Devontae Traverse, 22, as the suspect. Traverse is wanted on a warrant for three counts of aggravated assault and two counts of breaches of a court order. He is described as about 5'10" with a slim build, black hair and brown eyes. The suspect and victims did not previously know one another. The investigation is ongoing.All three were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Bradley Tepper, 53, a 20-year veteran of the Calgary Police Service, pleaded guilty before Justice Kristin Fahlman to theft over $5,000. Between July 2024 and August 2025, Tepper committed so-called "double walk-out thefts" at five different Home Depot stores in Calgary and surrounding areas. The scheme involved legally buying a tool, storing it in his car, and immediately returning to steal a second identical tool within minutes; if stopped by a sales associate, he would show the receipt from the legal purchase. He would later return the first tool, often at a different Home Depot store, keeping the second one. The investigation began in August 2025 following a complaint about fraudulent activity and multiple thefts from hardware stores in and around the city. A pre-sentence report has been ordered ahead of a sentencing hearing expected later this year. An occupant exited the vehicle and discharged rounds at officers, striking one officer twice. The male suspect fled on foot into Edworthy Park toward the Bow River, continuing to shoot at pursuing officers and nearby civilians. He then carjacked an individual and drove through the park until the vehicle became stuck, at which point he exited and resumed on foot. Officers returned fire. The suspect was later found dead in the river and was confirmed to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound; it has not yet been determined whether any officers also struck him. The injured officer was taken to hospital and is in stable condition. The suspect was a known organized crime target. More than 100 officers were deployed, HAWCS helicopter was used, and fire crews recovered the body from the Bow River near Shouldice Athletic Park. Craig Stothard, 52, allegedly shot into a stolen cube van, killing Levon Boyce Fox and Wesley Davidson and injuring Fox's brother, who was also in the vehicle. Following a two-year investigation, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team charged Stothard with two counts of second-degree murder in summer 2025. On 10/08/2026, a preliminary inquiry began before Medicine Hat Justice Mark Mastel to determine whether sufficient evidence exists to send the case to trial; prosecutor Jeff Rudiak and defence lawyer Don MacLeod will present witnesses and arguments over the next two weeks. A publication ban was imposed at the start of the hearing to protect Stothard's right to a fair trial. Fox's mother, Lena Wildman, was in court at the start of the hearing.
