An occupant exited the vehicle and discharged rounds at officers, striking one officer twice. The male suspect fled on foot into Edworthy Park toward the Bow River, continuing to shoot at pursuing officers and nearby civilians. He then carjacked an individual and drove through the park until the vehicle became stuck, at which point he exited and resumed on foot. Officers returned fire. The suspect was later found dead in the river and was confirmed to have suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound; it has not yet been determined whether any officers also struck him. The injured officer was taken to hospital and is in stable condition. The suspect was a known organized crime target. More than 100 officers were deployed, HAWCS helicopter was used, and fire crews recovered the body from the Bow River near Shouldice Athletic Park. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating.
