The deceased individual was found in a residence on Crowder Road by officers from the Grenville County detachment. Am 20.11.2026 durchsuchten Beamte des Polizeidienstes der Stadt Gatineau eine Wohnung im Gebiet Manoir des Trembles im Zusammenhang mit zwei Einbruchsfällen. Dabei wurde ein 52-jähriger Einwohner von Gatineau festgenommen und in Untersuchungshaft gebracht. Er wurde dem Gericht von Québec vorgeführt. Nach seinem Gerichtstermin wurden weitere Anklagen wegen ähnlicher Straftaten zugelassen. Der Mann bot seine Dienste als Handwerker an, hauptsächlich für Arbeiten in Häusern von Frauen. Nachdem er Zugang zu den Wohnungen der Opfer erhalten hatte, meldeten diese, Unterwäsche gefunden zu haben, die ihnen nicht gehörte, und dass eigene Unterwäsche fehlte. Die Ermittler gehen davon aus, dass der Mann möglicherweise weitere Personen im Viertel Manoir des Trembles sowie anderswo in Gatineau und Ottawa geschädigt hat. On 26.12.2024, Duane Nepoose, 32, pleaded guilty to multiple charges in connection with a crime spree that ended in a fatal crash at Macleod Trail and Southland Drive in Calgary. Nepoose, fleeing police in a stolen van, ran a red light and collided with two other vehicles, killing nine-year-old Victoria Desjardins and injuring her mother and older sister, as well as another motorist. The flight lasted about 16 minutes, with speeds up to 170-180 km/h, and included running multiple red lights. Nepoose had previously committed a robbery, punching a pharmacist and stealing his vehicle. On 27.08.2026, Court of King's Bench Justice Indra Maharaj sentenced him to 10 years in prison, with credit for time served, leaving about 7½ years. The judge cited mitigating factors such as his upbringing and remorse, but noted his methamphetamine use as an aggravating factor. On 27.08.2026 at approximately 12:20 p.m., firefighters were called to the 200 block of 27th Avenue N.E. in Tuxedo Park for a structure fire. Crews extinguished a basement fire and, after clearing heavy smoke, located one victim in the basement. The victim was confirmed dead at the scene. The fire was contained to the house where it started. On 23.08.2026, Toronto Police arrested four adults and four teens in a stolen-vehicle and firearms investigation in the city's east end. The investigation began with the arrest of a wanted man in the Dundas St. E. and Sumach St. area. As officers approached, the man and a youth fled but were arrested after a brief foot pursuit. A loaded AR-15-style rifle with 27 rounds of 5.56-calibre ammunition was found. A search warrant at a home led to the seizure of seven master keys and two programming devices designed to assist in stealing vehicles. Kevin Joao, 20, Jahmier Adams, 19, Lamario Reddick, 20, Noah Lall, 18, and a 16-year-old boy face multiple charges including unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of automobile master keys. George Pitt, a New Brunswick man serving a life sentence for the first-degree murder of six-year-old Samantha Toole, has been denied day parole. The Parole Board of Canada decided that his proposed release plan would not adequately manage the risk he posed. The case dates back to October 1993, when Samantha, the daughter of Pitt's then-girlfriend, Gloria Toole, was found dead in the St. John River. The parole board decision, dated Aug. 17, says the board was not satisfied Pitt could be released on day parole without presenting an undue risk to society. During his 1994 trial in Saint John, the court heard he had been found doing laundry at about 4 a.m. on the day the girl was reported missing. Blood belonging to Samantha was found on bedding and a comforter he was washing. In 2005, DNA testing was conducted on evidence from the case after questions were raised about Pitt's conviction. The testing did not link Pitt to biological evidence examined in the case, but it also did not identify another person. Although Pitt, who is now in his early sixties, has maintained his innocence, his conviction remains in place. Pitt's refusal to participate in sex-offender programming was one of the central issues in the board's decision. The board says Pitt told the panel he refused the programming because he maintains his innocence. He also said the material could be triggering because of sexual abuse he endured. His parole officer said the programming was recommended because of the details of the index offence that included a sexual component, adding that the decision had been made at a high level within Correctional Service Canada. The board said Pitt's refusal remains a barrier. Pitt has completed several programs, including programs for anger and substance abuse, but the board remained concerned, noting his past disciplinary issues outweigh his recent improvements. Still, the board concluded that his progress was insufficient. A psychological assessment completed in March 2026 estimated Pitt's risk of violence as high/above average, sexual reoffending as moderate/average and general recidivism as moderate. The board said those results were concerning but not necessarily conclusive, and it considered Pitt's behaviour, programming and circumstances as part of its overall assessment. Community-based residential facilities were willing to accommodate him, and the board acknowledged support for his release. But it found the proposed plan did not provide enough detail about supervision, treatment and other support. The board also said Pitt would require a very slow, supported, and gradual reintegration, noting that he has spent most of his adult life incarcerated and has had little experience living in the community beyond escorted temporary absences. The board also noted that Pitt's health could make future reintegration more difficult but concluded his current plan was not sufficient. S.W. for reports of a woman in distress who appeared to have been sexually assaulted. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition. Investigators believe the woman did not know the man prior to the attack. The suspect is described as speaking with an accent and having dark brown hair. Witnesses reported seeing a mid-sized, black SUV with chrome trim around the windows flee the area. The random nature of this assault is extremely concerning, and high-profile patrols will be conducted in the area over the coming days. On 25.08.2026 at 7:14 p.m., Edmonton police responded to a weapons complaint at a hotel near Stony Plain Road and 178 Street. Two men were reported inside a hotel room, one with a firearm. Officers contained the area and attempted to communicate. A man exited and entered the room several times, then advanced towards officers with a pair of scissors. Two officers discharged their firearms, striking the man. Despite life-saving measures, the 57-year-old man was pronounced dead on scene. No officers or other personnel were injured.
