On Friday afternoon, a security guard was stabbed at a grocery store on Sargent Avenue. The suspect, a 23-year-old man, entered the store, selected retail items, and attempted to leave without paying. A physical altercation ensued, and the man allegedly stabbed the security guard with a sharp-edged weapon in the upper body just outside the store. The suspect fled with stolen merchandise. The victim, a 24-year-old man, was transported to hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to stable. On 25.08.2026 at approximately 4:00 PM, officers responded to the Dollarama at 2727 Portage Ave. in Winnipeg's St. James area. A security guard had confronted a shoplifter and ordered him to leave the store. The shoplifter then pulled out a weapon and stabbed the guard, causing a serious injury to his upper body, before leaving with stolen merchandise. The guard was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. An off-duty officer spotted the 29-year-old suspect near Portage Avenue and Sharp Boulevard just before 10:00 AM on 26.08.2026. On-duty members arrested him a few blocks away on Portage and Strathmillan Road. On 25.08.2026, Manitoba RCMP announced the results of Project Dolor, a year-and-a-half-long investigation that led to 15 arrests and the seizure of nearly 60 guns, 10 kilograms of cocaine and psilocybin mushrooms, and four vehicles. Thirteen people have been charged with a total of 67 drug and gun trafficking offences, while two Winnipeg men are also arrested with charges pending. The investigation began in December 2024 after Winkler police alerted RCMP to multi-kilogram shipments of cocaine being imported into a Winkler-area business. The network operated in Carman, Manitou, La Rivière, Thornhill, Morden, Winkler, Notre-Dame-de-Lourdes, McCreary, Winnipeg, the rural municipality of Stuartburn and other locations. The first arrest was of a 28-year-old man from Carman, found with two kilograms of cocaine and a prohibited handgun during a traffic stop in February; he faces 29 charges. Searches over the past month yielded eight kilograms of cocaine, 2½ kilograms of psilocybin mushrooms, 13 restricted handguns (three illegally trafficked), 44 non-restricted firearms, thousands of rounds of ammunition, 228 cartons of unstamped tobacco, and $4,500 in cash. While incarcerated, he participated in some treatment programming but remains a high risk to reoffend sexually, with adult females at risk of sexual violence. He is subject to parole conditions and a lifetime weapons ban. The public notice was issued to allow people to take protective measures; vigilante activity will not be tolerated. On 23.08.2026 at approximately 00:00, RCMP officers responded to a report of a possible assault inside a home on Dufferin Avenue in Selkirk, Manitoba. Upon arrival, they found a number of people inside and outside the home, including a 21-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency medical services attended, but the man was pronounced dead. RCMP major crime services determined the death was a homicide through an initial investigation. Justin Linklater, a 30-year-old man from Selkirk, was arrested at the scene and charged with second-degree murder. Am 20.08.2026 verurteilte Richterin Rachel Rusen am Provinzgericht in Winnipeg den 33-jährigen Abdi Hassan Ali zu vier Jahren Haft wegen Menschenschmuggels. Ali, ein ehemaliger somalischer Flüchtling, hatte sich schuldig bekannt, gegen das Einwanderungs- und Flüchtlingsschutzgesetz verstoßen zu haben, indem er Menschen ohne Visum oder Pass über die Grenze brachte. Er wurde 2024 zweimal festgenommen, zuerst am 22.02.2024 in der ländlichen Gemeinde Macdonald, wo er mit mehreren Passagieren in einem Fahrzeug gestoppt wurde und behauptete, Uber-Fahrer zu sein. Später am selben Tag wurde er in Winnipeg erneut verhaftet, wobei 2.300 US-Dollar und acht ausländische Staatsangehörige gefunden wurden. Am 01.12.2024 wurde er erneut festgenommen, nachdem RCMP ihn mit einem Mietwagen mit Alberta-Kennzeichen und einem passwortgeschützten Handy aufgriff; fünf ausländische Staatsangehörige flohen, wurden aber mit Infrarotkameras gefunden. Die Krone betonte die Gefährlichkeit der Taten, die bei Temperaturen von bis zu -25 Grad stattfanden.
