• Woman found dead in Liverpool park
On 28.08.2026 at approximately 17:25, police were called to the walled garden at Stanley Park in Liverpool following the discovery of a woman's body. The woman, believed to be white, aged in her 70s, approximately 5ft 2in tall, of small build with strawberry-blonde hair, was wearing a distinctive cerise pink Nike T-shirt. Initial investigations suggest the body may have lain undiscovered for several weeks. A postmortem has been conducted, but results are being withheld for investigative reasons. Enquiries are ongoing to identify the woman and inform her next of kin. Police are appealing for anyone who recognises the description or has information to come forward, particularly walkers or dog walkers who may have seen suspicious activity in the park. A cordon remains in place and a mobile police station will be set up near the park.

  • Burglar jailed for targeting vulnerable victim
On 30 May 2025, Cameron Ward, 20, of Sharples Crescent in Crosby, forced entry into a block of flats on Newsham Drive in Tuebrook, Liverpool, and kicked in the door of a vulnerable resident's flat. He stole the victim's prison ID card and birth certificate during an untidy search. The victim, who has serious medical and mental health issues, was moved for his own safety after the incident. Ward caused £6,950 of damage. He admitted burglary and criminal damage and was jailed for two years at Liverpool Crown Court on 21 August 2026, with a suspended sentence activated. The judge described the offence as 'mean' and noted Ward's previous convictions.

  • Drink-driver spared jail for dragging officer with Range Rover
A breathalyser test showed she was three times over the legal drink-drive limit. When Pc Ward requested a female officer to search her, none was available, and Desilva said she was leaving and attempted to drive away. Pc Ward held on to the steering wheel and the side of the Range Rover and was dragged along the road as she struck his hand and fingers to dislodge him; he then used pepper spray on her and on a female passenger who was trying to engage the vehicle's sport mode. Desilva, a lead diversity representative at the Royal College of Physicians and mother of four, later admitted causing serious injury by dangerous driving, assaulting an emergency worker and drink-driving at Liverpool Crown Court. Pc Ward suffered serious and lifelong injuries, now needs a crutch and a knee brace and developed post-traumatic stress disorder. Judge Garrett Byrne imposed a 28-month custodial sentence suspended for two years with 140 hours of unpaid work, citing the impact on her four children, two of whom have special educational needs, and banned her from driving for three years.
