Am 29.08.2026 gegen 00:30 Uhr wurden die Beamten der Polizei Edinburgh zu einer Ruhestörung in der Springwell Place in der Nähe der Dalry Road gerufen. Fünf Polizeifahrzeuge waren vor Ort. On 26.08.2026 at approximately 13:30, a man was arrested by police in the Grassmarket area of Edinburgh. The incident was captured on video by comedian Gill Cordiner. The footage shows a young man with red hair in an altercation with police, during which he attached himself to a railing. Two women from a nearby seating area intervened, with one kicking his knees out and the other pinning him down with her knee, allowing police to handcuff him. The man was subsequently led away. The circumstances leading up to the incident are not yet known. Brand, along with Robert O'Brien and Andrew Kelly, murdered the teenager on 25/08/1996. The trio evaded justice for almost three decades until their conviction. Caroline was O'Brien's girlfriend; he and the other two beat her and threw projectiles at her, causing blunt force trauma. The murder took place at a bridge near the towpath beside the River Leven, between Renton and Bonhill in West Dunbartonshire. She was pushed or fell into undergrowth and her body was discovered in the river at Place of Bonhill, Renton, later the same day. Brand was jailed for life with a minimum of 17 years at the High Court in Glasgow; O'Brien and Kelly received minimum terms of 22 and 18 years respectively. On 16.08.2026 at approximately 4:40pm, the bodies of Paul Lafferty, 50, and Gary Beaton, 54, were discovered in a flat on Chancellor Street in Glasgow's west end. The two men were known to each other. Post-mortem examinations conducted on Monday and Tuesday confirmed the deaths as murder. Police Scotland have launched a manhunt for the suspected killer, with detectives conducting door-to-door enquiries and reviewing extensive CCTV footage. The families are receiving support from specialist officers. Detective Superintendent Cheryl Kelly has appealed for anyone with information to come forward. La mère, qui avait consommé de l'alcool avant les faits, a toujours nié sa responsabilité, affirmant ne pas se souvenir d'avoir utilisé le sèche-cheveux. Elle a plaidé non coupable mais a été reconnue coupable à l'issue de son procès en juillet dernier. Ce vendredi 14 août, elle a été condamnée à six ans de prison. Le juge a qualifié l'affaire de 'particulièrement troublante', tout en reconnaissant qu'elle n'avait pas l'intention de tuer l'enfant, mais a estimé qu'il s'agissait d'une négligence 'au plus haut degré'. Selon les experts, la cause la plus probable du décès serait l'hyperthermie et le coup de chaleur plutôt que les brûlures, qui couvraient environ 18% de la surface du corps. Christopher Rice, a 35-year-old father from Wakefield, West Yorkshire, has appeared in court for a second time charged with the murder of his nine-year-old daughter Minnie Merriman. She was taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, where she later died. Rice appeared at Forfar Sheriff Court last week and made a further appearance in private on Thursday.
