The Turkish Justice Minister Akin Gurlek stated that arrest warrants had been issued for Netanyahu and another Israeli, Afek Moskovitch, on charges including genocide, crimes against humanity and torture, as part of a case against 35 people over the Israeli interception in international waters. The request for the red notices has been submitted to the interior ministry. The case stems from an incident in May when Israeli forces opened fire on vessels from the Global Sumud Flotilla sailing towards Gaza, detaining activists who were later taken to an Israeli prison and expelled. Several activists accused Israeli security forces of physical or sexual violence during detention. Turkey has been a vocal critic of Israel's actions in Gaza and has previously issued domestic arrest warrants for Netanyahu.
