E.I. teacher Byron Carr. He was released into the care of his sister under strict conditions, including electronic monitoring, surrendering his travel documents, remaining at home except for church, medical appointments or emergencies, reporting weekly by telephone to police, and not possessing any firearms. The evidence from the bail hearing and the judge's reasons are subject to a publication ban. Carr, a 36-year-old teacher at Montague Regional High School, was allegedly strangled with a towel in his home in the early morning hours of 11/11/1988; his body was later found with multiple stab wounds. Irving was arrested in January 2024 and charged with first-degree murder and interfering with human remains, and he has been in custody since his arrest. He has pleaded not guilty and elected for his case to be heard before a judge and jury in the Supreme Court of P.E.I., with the trial scheduled to begin on 24/11.
