On 26.08.2026, late Wednesday evening, a 26-year-old Russian man of Chechen origin deliberately drove his car into a group of people gathered outside a bar in Caen, Normandy, killing two men and wounding nine others. The incident occurred after a fight, when the suspect was set upon by several people. He returned with his car, drove onto a bus lane in front of Caen train station, and deliberately drove into the men and other people standing under a bus shelter. The two fatalities were a 35-year-old Afghan man and a 28-year-old man also believed to be Afghan. The nine wounded, aged 17 to 36, are all men, with seven in critical condition, suffering fractures to the lower limbs. The suspect fled the scene but was apprehended by security forces in the neighbouring port of Ouistreham following a major search operation. The Caen prosecutor's office stated there was no apparent terrorist motive, and the suspect, lawfully residing in France, was not known to intelligence services and had never been convicted of a crime. During questioning, the suspect reported having been the victim of violence on the station forecourt prior to the incident. He was not under the influence of alcohol at the time. #Terrorismus
