On August 22, 2026, shortly before 1 a.m., Sûreté du Québec responded to a single-vehicle crash on Highway 50 near Papineauville, Quebec. An individual was found inside the vehicle with suspicious injuries and later died in hospital. The Sûreté du Québec requested assistance from the Ottawa Police Service, who subsequently found a second individual, a woman, dead in a dwelling on Guigues Avenue in Ottawa's Lowertown neighbourhood just after 11 a.m. The deaths are being treated as suspicious and are under investigation by both police forces. The identities of the deceased have not been released pending notification of next of kin. Police say there is no ongoing threat to public safety, but an increased police presence may be noticed in the area. The investigation is ongoing.
