On 25.08.2026 at 7:14 p.m., Edmonton police responded to a weapons complaint at a hotel near Stony Plain Road and 178 Street. Two men were reported inside a hotel room, one with a firearm. Officers contained the area and attempted to communicate. A man exited and entered the room several times, then advanced towards officers with a pair of scissors. Two officers discharged their firearms, striking the man. Despite life-saving measures, the 57-year-old man was pronounced dead on scene. No officers or other personnel were injured. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating the shooting.
