Mohamed Ali, Abdullah Khan and Ahmed Dini have pleaded guilty to drug trafficking charges as part of Project Roasted, a months-long investigation into a drug trafficking network in Winnipeg. The investigation culminated in the arrest of Ali at his home and the arrest of Khan and Dini as they left Stella's on Pembina Highway with about two kilograms of cocaine in one of their cars. Police later searched Ali's cellphones due to concerns the investigation had been compromised by a corrupt officer, Elston Bostock, who was sentenced to seven years in prison for corruption-related offences. Ali admitted to possessing cocaine for trafficking purposes in Winnipeg and Niverville from October 2023 to February 2024, and a joint recommendation of eight years in prison is expected. Khan, the owner of the Moonlight Lounge nightclub, admitted to picking up a load of 20 kilograms of cocaine and delivering some before his arrest, and was sentenced to seven years in total, including for obstructing justice. Dini, a father of eight, was found with 213 rocks of crack cocaine in his apartment and received a two-year conditional sentence followed by two years of probation.
