On 25.08.2026 at approximately 4:00 PM, officers responded to the Dollarama at 2727 Portage Ave. in Winnipeg's St. James area. A security guard had confronted a shoplifter and ordered him to leave the store. The shoplifter then pulled out a weapon and stabbed the guard, causing a serious injury to his upper body, before leaving with stolen merchandise. The guard was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. An off-duty officer spotted the 29-year-old suspect near Portage Avenue and Sharp Boulevard just before 10:00 AM on 26.08.2026. On-duty members arrested him a few blocks away on Portage and Strathmillan Road. The man is charged with aggravated assault, robbery, and failing to comply with a probation order.
