On Friday afternoon, a security guard was stabbed at a grocery store on Sargent Avenue. The suspect, a 23-year-old man, entered the store, selected retail items, and attempted to leave without paying. A physical altercation ensued, and the man allegedly stabbed the security guard with a sharp-edged weapon in the upper body just outside the store. The suspect fled with stolen merchandise. The victim, a 24-year-old man, was transported to hospital in critical condition and has since been upgraded to stable. The accused was arrested without incident late Saturday morning in the area of Sherbrook and Ellice Avenue and has been charged with robbery, assault with a weapon, and possession of a weapon.
