He is charged with kidnapping his daughter Reigh on July 27, 2007, injuring a social worker during the incident, and providing a false identity. Gerhartsreiter allegedly grabbed his seven-year-old daughter, pushed her into a Chevrolet SUV, and sped off, injuring the social worker who held onto the door. He was arrested six days later in Baltimore, Maryland, while attempting to buy a $430,000 house. The trial is expected to last three weeks. Gerhartsreiter is also suspected of involvement in the 1985 disappearance and murder of Jonathan and Linda Sohus in San Marino, California, but has not been charged in that case.
