Late last year, 33-year-old Kyle Bevan, who was serving a life sentence for the murder of two-year-old Lola James in 2020, was killed in his cell at Wakefield Prison in West Yorkshire. CCTV footage showed three men – Mark Fellows, Lee Newell and David Taylor – laughing and grinning as they waited for Bevan to return to his cell. They stabbed him 25 times with makeshift weapons, including a shaped piece of metal from a television set, before tucking his body into bed to make it look as though he was asleep. Fellows and Newell were already serving whole-life orders for murder, while Taylor was on remand for murder and attempted murder. All three are now serving whole-life orders. The attack was described as a cunningly planned assault by prisoners with no prospect of release.
